Village of the Damned

Post by Warrior Queen Hawk on Sat Apr 26, 2014 3:44 pm

Pain, death, repetition, and fear... This is what a certain village is based upon. No one can leave, no one can visit. All die, all live. In a small village in the middle of no where, the people have become accustomed to a life based around such horrible feelings. Every two months, an unknown creature that pillars over the tiny village rampages through homes and farmland just for the thrill of killing. This creature is known as "Byatha". Not only does Byatha appear, but a swarm of locust-like beasts bring turmoil too. They are the size of a 10 year old human child and feed off of human flesh, livestock, and plants.

This day is known as "Herhaling" or Day of Repetition. The giant creature and the locust infest the village, killing the population until 150 of the 200 people are gone. Once 50 remain... it's as if time rewinds itself and gives the humans a second chance to end the attacks. All the food and livestock are fine, all the humans who were killed are resurrected, and the destruction has been repaired. The only thing that never leaves are the memories of death, the feelings of being killed and watching others be killed.

People who are killed by the attack live again; however, time doesn't rewind. The village simply renews itself to how it was two months ago. People may still pass away from old age or suicide, but if they are killed on Herhaling, they are brought back.

So many have given up hope of fixing their lives... some don't know a life away from this... And most are just maddened by the many times they have been killed... And there are a couple that want to put an end to all this. So, what are you?

Rules

  1. Follow the Roleplay Rules
  2. The goal of the rp is to escape or stop Byatha from attacking, not to woo someone. Sure, romance is fine, even encouraged, but I want this to be more... plot driven.
  3. Yes, you may play an insane person, but at first sign that they are becoming so annoying that the creators want to kill them... so help that insane character or he dies. Good? Great!
  4. Have fun! Otherwise what is the point in making this? D:
  5. Spamming the rp is forbidden. I don't want that.
  6. Please don't use text talk, try your best to spell words correctly, and remember that one word isn't a reply!
  7. You may have multiple characters if you so desire as long as you can balance them and keep up.
  8. My word is law. Any and all who disobey will not see the light of day.
  9. My cookie jar is to be left alone or else >_>
  10. Magic exists in this village, but if I deem a power too Mary Sue-ish, I highly recommend changing it or adding weaknesses.
  11. If you don't know me, you catch on fast that I use a lot of detail in my bios... You do not have to go to an extreme with bios, I am just crazy. I want more detail than "He is tall, dark, and handsome." but that's it. Bio length isn't a big concern. Same with Replies. I want more than "He sat down." but besides that... you should be safe for the most part.
  12. This rule exists only to have an even number of rules because the host is OCD.

(Macha)
Name: Jestain Du’Marix. (Goes by Jest)
Age: He forgot, but doesn’t look all that old.
Gender: Male
Skills/Abilities: Jest has two magical abilities. The first one, is over time. But only in a few regards. These being, he has a stronger sense over what people might call “A sixth sense.” To clarify he can’t change time, he can’t move backwards in time. He can’t change the course of time. But what he can do is react to what will happen. He gets a feeling over what is about to happen, and can react accordingly. For example, if you try and shoot him in the back, he will get a feeling that it will be about to happen and might suddenly in your eyes to just dive to the side as your about to pull the trigger. Another example could be if you are planning on taking something of his, like a bite of food, or a coin. He might bring such an item closer to him. He will never know specifics, like who is going to shoot him. Or who is going to try to steal from him. But he will get a feeling that this event will happen and his body will naturally react to the event. Think of it like Spider man’s Spidey sense.

His second power is over illusions. How this power came up, you can find out later on in the bio. In the early stages of his life (infant, toddler…around that time frame), it seemed like a knack for making things disappear. Like a magician doing slight of hands. As he grew older this skill never really improved, he mainly got better at doing actual sleight of hand, and using the trick in case he got caught in the sleight of hand. It wasn’t until a specific event that he was actually able to gain full use of this ability, at the cost of a dampening of his other magic ability. The increase of his skill, lets him change appearance, size, shape, form, color, taste, smell, ect. Of himself or any object he can touch. Organic objects or things that were once organic, he finds easier or harder to change. It all depends on what he is trying to illusion about the object. If it happens to be something similar to the object originally was, it is an easy task. If he is trying to make an apple be an orange, he has much more of an issue. In organic objects also have a varied difficulty as it depends on his goal with it is. If he is trying to make a sword look like a loaf of bread, he will be having issues. But if the sword is meant to look like an axe…it won’t nearly be such a problem. His illusions last for an hour after touching something. Since his event, he has in fact used such a skill to pay for things with little bits of cheap iron, making them into valuable coins to buy things.
Note: This skill over illusions grows stronger the more fractured his mind becomes. While his skill over Time grows weaker the more his mind grows fractured.
He is known to use weapons though the two different weapons he uses seem to be polar opposites. When he was younger, he wanted to learn a good pairing to his sense of power. So he learned how to use a staff. A weapon really good at reacting to whatever is used to attack the wielder, but it is also a weapon that is designed to be non-lethal. This was his goal, and so he learned how to be a great fighter with it.
When his Event happened, his personality changed into something different. So gone was the staff and instead it was replaced by an instrument that he found great amusement in. Two pouches rest on the back of his belt, inside each pouch are a fair number of metal cards that he uses with great accuracy. The edges of the cards vary depending on the card, they range from blunt to razor sharp, even serrated cards exist.
Appearance: When looking at Jestain you might see an unassuming person, someone who is on the shorter side, with dark hair that always seems to get in his eyes. Dark green eyes, with flecks of gold throughout them. He is skinny, skinny to the point of seeming malnourished, though that comes from where he has been kept and not his own doing. In his left ear is a gold loop, covered in pointless runes, and across that same sides’ eyebrow is a scar that ends right above his eye.
For clothing he at the start of the roleplay would be in rags, but when he gets his stuff back his normal garb is a set of soft grey leather armor, with little studs covering the forearms. His feet are in similar boots, that help him stay quiet no matter what terrain he is walking across. Around his head he will be wearing a black bandana with the silver markings of a cresent moon turned on its side so that the points point down towards his face. A silver dagger pierces that moon, with the blade pointing to his hair. He wears a black belt instead of the grey of his armor, attached to this belt at the back, one over each butt cheek are pouches whose contents you can read above in Skills/Abilities. Beyond that he usually has a four foot metal staff.
Personality: Jest has two different distinct personalities. The first is the more uncommon one. It is completely sane, and It is the personality that he had before his Event. He was a calm, dedicated person. Always willing to help out anyone who needed it. He worked diligently to assist anyone in need, always working for others before he did anything to help himself. This personality had its faults though, as it wasn’t uncommon for him to fall asleep at odd times, due to him usually helping others than actually getting rest for himself. Jest was also known to have a cold temper when it came to people fighting or doing things he viewed as needlessly stupid. This personality is rare for him now, and only comes rarely through the haze of his mind.
To explain the other side of his personality, one must learn of the Event that changed him. A few years into the arrival of the giant and his army of bugs, Jest did something that was deemed irredeemable. He killed and slaughtered his entire family. From the old to the children. None were spared. When the authorities came to investigate the screaming, they found Jest standing in the midst of a bloodbath, leaning on his staff while drenched in the blood of his family. His head was bowed and when they approached him demanding answers he answered quietly tears streaming down his face “I did what had to be done.” Then he just started laughing. No fight was gotten from him as he was locked away deep inside the jail, where he now has become forgotten. Since that event his mind has become fragmented, and he has gone quite insane. Jest views the world now as a playground for his amusement, and everyone is simply there so he can have the most amount of fun.
Other: Free him from the jail so I can rp please! And he might have been in the prison for a good amount of time, forgotten. Will leave it up to Dragon to decide if he has been able to escape aging for that time due to his first power.

(Warrior Hawk)
Name: Crystaline Halor
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Skills/Abilities:
Ghostly Impression- An ability that allows the user to change into a mostly invisible form. What I mean by mostly is when a person is looking for her, she is unseen. When they close their eyes and don't panic, they see a bright blue ball of light that bounces around leaving a trail of blue behind it. In this form, Crystaline can pass through walls, people, and other objects without fearing pain. The disadvantage? If someone was aware that she was in this state of being and they touch her, she would return to her human self.
Appearance: She is a blonde with red at the tips that just touch her chin. She stands at about 5'3" and her face is a heart shape with deep blue eyes. Most of the time, she will be carrying a smirk on her face unless she is thinking. In which case she ends up furrowing her eyebrows and frowning. Her body is slender, making muscle almost non existent.
For her clothing, she wears tight fitting tops so they don't get caught on things. Crystal wears khakis most of the time, but rolls up the pant legs up to her shins. She also wears a pretty blue and green necklace that looks like the moon engulfing green sun.
Personality: Funny and energetic until she gets too caught up in her thoughts. She loves having a logical thought process even though daydreaming takes up half of her day. Strangest thing about her is she watches people closely unintentional. Their walk, their actions, and the way they talk. Of course, very few notice her observing, but it freaks her out when she notices herself doing it. If asked, she is also able to tell someone different aspects about them that they didn't tell her.
When first meeting her, she is very fun to be around and she always has a look that makes them feel like they are important to her no matter what even if she isn't fond of them. When you know her... the sarcasm and remarks start to increase.
Other: She fights with a sword and she wears a dagger on her waist. The hilt of the blades are golden with the top of the hilt making swirls around the bottom.

(King Staragna)
Name: Johnny Erikson
Age: 37
Gender:Male
Skills/Abilities: Johnny has an immaculate sense of timing. He knows exactly what time it is down to the second and can recite it perfectly. When alone, he often mutters under his breath the remaining time until the monster appears. Interestingly, this ability applies to months and years as well, and as such he is the only credible source of timekeeping for the village due to the bimonthly reset of the entire village destroying all calendars. In a world cut off from outer communication and driven insane by the endless destruction of all they hold dear, he remains the one constant. The village relies innately upon his gift for telling time. Only he can know when their time runs out. Again.
Appearance: Johnny is reminiscent of a good ol' boy farmer with a strong Christian heart and stronger biceps. He keeps his sandy blond hair short, yet long enough to cover his head from the hot sun. He dresses simply, and can usually be found in a white shirt and overalls. He is frequently dirty from working his farm, even though he knows it will all be destroyed when The Ravager comes. He owns one suit in his wardrobe, and he wears it during every Herhaling. Even he doesn't know why this is anymore, and if one were to ask him, he would say only that it is tradition at this point.

He sees no point in putting on a cheerful air for other people, and therefore his face is consistently downcast. His depressing visage gradually worsens as the Day of Repetition draws nearer. His blue eyes show almost no emotion at all, it having been ripped from him due to the countless deaths he has experienced. He has an air about him that is somewhat menacing, and a harrowing thousand-yard stare. He has been known to look into the distance at seemingly random moments, as if looking for Byatha across the fields.
Personality: Johnny used to be a strong-hearted Christian who tried desperately to be a hero. When the monster first arrived, he fought valiantly against the locusts and was quickly killed. When he awoke, he was very confused and went to talk to his family about the dream he'd just had. When he heard that they had the same experience, he became intrigued. When he heard the same from the other townsfolk, he resolved to get to bottom of this happening. The locusts appeared again, and once again he fought and was killed shortly. Every time the locusts came, he fought his hardest. Every time he was beheaded, stabbed, sliced, mutilated, or otherwise killed, a little hope drained from his eyes. He is now a cynical being, and accepts his fate with a halfhearted stab of his pitchfork.

As he lives on the outskirts of town, he is the first to be killed during every Herhaling. This leads to him being resentful of the other villagers, who hide away in their basements, though this has been proven not to hinder the monster from finding them. The thought of going further into the village has not occurred to him, as he is very much a creature of habit. He is set in his traditional values, and refuses to worship Byatha as some of the other villagers do. Johnny prays the day before every Herhaling that the monster will not come, and every Herhaling his prayers are unanswered. The only emotions besides cold indifference that he shows are to his family. They are the only ones who may witness his outrage against God and the monster.
Other: He has a wife, Shannon, and one son, Charles (Charley). His parents lived with them on the farm. Their deaths set off his cynical streak.

Name: Avery Marin
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Skills/Abilities: Imagine being able to grow crops at the call of your voice.  Seal wounds with the sound of a flute.  Create a raging blood lust in the hearts of those around you by the beating of drums.  These are examples of what Avery can do with her magic.  Avery can use music in almost any form to cause a vast number of effects.

Instruments are her tools to help her cast her magic.  Her own body could be used as well, clapping of the hands, whistling, but she will never sing.  She has only ever used her voice to use magic twice in her life.  The first time she was trying to warm the room.  And she set everything around her ablaze.  The second time, she was trying to make a flower bloom, and a fully grown tree burst into creation in the middle of the road right where the flower had once been.  So she has become a self inflicted mute, too afraid to misspeak and cause harm to people around her.

She does have magical bells. Each named, and doing a multitude of things. But using them wrong can have disastrous results to the wielder. Her mother used them, and used them to end her own life to save the life of her two daughters.

Appearance:  Avery has a round face, almost heart shaped.  With pale blond hair that she keeps cut short, in a pixie fashion.  The bangs are long enough to get into her violet eyes.  These eyes are usually looking up at people, all because of her small and short stature.
Personality: Quiet and sweet, she enjoys reading and being outside, but hates being contained by her father who is afraid of losing his only daughter now.
Other: Has lost her birth mother and her sister, one to suicide. The other one, her mother used magical bells passed from her mother to protect the house from being destroyed by the enemy. She lost her life in the process but saved the new born Avery.

Name: Abigail Short
Age: 10
Gender: Female
Skills/Abilities: Abigail has one ability, she is able to make small portals that can lead anywhere in the town. The portal are black circles that she can open on any relatively flat surface. There is no limit on distance as long as it is within the town's borders and it takes her about twenty seconds to open one. In an emergency she can shorten the time to only five seconds, but it requires her to plan ahead. She possesses five charms, which look like small purple stones. She can leave the stone in a spot, and any time she tries to open a portal to that place, it will open in five seconds. Sound also travels through the portal, but not light (So you can hear through it but not see). Passage through the portal is instant, like going from one door to another. The drawback is that the portals are only big enough for a small girl like her to fit through. I thin woman could probably squeeze through but only with difficulty.

Appearance:Abigail is at that awkward stage in her life that most girls go through. She is a little too thin, and her legs are a little too long; giving her a cute but still awkward "beanpole" look. She is about four feet five inches tall and weighs about eighty pounds. She has long black hair and ivory skin. She has a pretty smile even though her lips and teeth are slightly too big for her face.

She has a oval face with big dark eyes and her eyebrows and lashes are as black as her hair. Her dark hair creates an unsettling contrast against her pale skin and some people have mentioned (not directly to her) that she could be an actress in a horror movie.

Personality: Abigail is not shy, but she is quiet. Being an orphan and having no actual home, she is accustomed to being alone. She has a sweet smile and shows it often. She cares deeply for the people of the town and tries hard to help them in any ways that she can.

During the Herhaling Abigail is a mess. She has experienced death and suffering her whole life and has never gotten used to it. She often spends the entire time with her eyes closed and sobbing as long as the monster and the locusts are not near her. She has never actually been killed herself, due to the protective nature of some of the villagers and the quick escapes her power offers.
This does not mean she has gone unscathed. She has suffered horrible injuries and writhed in pain many times throughout the day.

Other: Abigail is a fantastic shot with a bow and arrow(For a child her age) and sometime fires through her portals to hit hard to reach places. She also has a beautiful singing voice.

All right. Thanks for taking my advice! I think it works rather well. Now... for the actual portals. I need the time it takes her to travel through the portals. If you could see through these portals, would it be just like a door going into the room that you spawned the portal? So... If you were in the market and you wanted to get to a basement. Would you look through the portal (if light could come in) and it would be a basic door to the basement? Or it is a tunnel like thing that takes a few seconds to get through?

Remember, she is a little girl. "Fantastic" shot is probably not realistic... However, if you say she creates a portal and shoots something inside it before going through and the creatures is close enough and big enough, that would make lots of sense. And later on, perhaps tell us where she gets her arrow and bow. Market... Blacksmith... her mom before she was orphaned?

Re: Village of the Damned

Post by Aurum on Sat Apr 26, 2014 7:35 pm

Name: Oric Turndale
Age: Around 22, but lost count of the days
Gender: Male
Skills and Abilities: Oric’s sole magical ability is his ability to create weak magical trinkets out of wood. He first carves the trinket, then infuses a small amount of magic. They can have a variety of effects, none very strong, and only one works at a time for each person. The trinket has to be held for it to work. He prefers to keep his lucky trinket on to avoid dying as much as possible, although he has one that allows him to move more quickly and another one that increases his height by a few inches, which is useful for getting things just out of reach. It takes time, however, to create a magical trinket. Depending on its effect, it can take up to three weeks. The average is about a couple days to carve and another week to infuse.

His other ability, though not magical, is a keen understanding of people and their personalities. He knows which person would want what kind of trinket. Generally, he is hopeful enough that others tend to see that hope and want to feel it themselves, though the other people in the village are almost entirely too far put into despair. He also helps people with tough experiences and can occasionally help someone feel a bit better through advice.  He tries to be a small light in a dark land.

Appearance: Though one of his trinkets could vary his appearance slightly if he wanted to waste time doing so, Oric is 5’9” with light, rough skin. His eyes are a fairly bright shade of blue, enough to make someone wonder if the sky channeled itself into them. His smiles, fairly rare in this terrible land, bring a sense of hope to his face, a hope that they all make it out alive. His hair is fairly ragged and dark blonde. It’s normally messy; he doesn’t take much care of it because there are better things to do. He wears casual clothes for anything, even funerals. Oric doesn’t care about what others think about his choice of clothing.

Personality: Oric is generally kind, but he is easily irritated by those who have given up the battle. He knows there is still a way out. He just has to find it. He generally trusts the other villagers, but isn’t overly friendly except to his family and best friends. Occasionally, he will create his trinkets and give them to other people, but Oric is a bit shy to those he doesn’t know well. He greets everyone he knows warmly and asks how that person is doing. Oric knows Crystal and thinks he gets along well with her, but isn’t quite sure how she feels about him.

Other: Oric is fairly strong. He uses an etched war hammer to battle if it is necessary. His mother was an amazing blacksmith who could forge any weapon with few mistakes. The hammer is silver with a carving of a mythical sunset, one without all of the terrible occurrences of the village. He dreams that one, if only one, person escapes and is safe from the danger within, because he can’t stand the thought of EVERYONE being trapped in a never-ending cycle of torture.

All right, guys. Here's what I am thinking. Abigail will probably still be at the hideout which if you look and read the rp, you will know what that is. I doubt Cryst would take a kid to bust a guy out of jail. If you REALLY want to come to the jail, you can make it so that she snuck out of the hideout and went to the jail. She WILL be told to go back and Cryst will be upset with her, but... eh.

As for Oric. He has two options. One, keep Abigail company or two, meet Charley and Cryst at the jail, ready to help them go through the sewers and into the underground jails. Your choice, Aurum.

Anyone else who joins, I will come up with other ways for you to jump in if you need help.

Name: Forran Urlaquie
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Skills/Abilities: Forran has trained himself, through many mistakes, how to wield an axe with his abnormal stature but more of his learning went into hearing the voice of the earth beneath and listening to its call. Speaking to the earth he can call upon geomancy to both bolster himself and his allies as well as harm his foes.

From the aspect of Water he can summon a temporary Geyser, which shoots about 60ft into the air, spraying brine and chunks of earth, ranging from pebbles to 1ft radius clods, around up to 30ft away from the inital Geyser. With a bit of focus he can unleash what he calls a 'Water Line'. This Geomancy sends a line of pressurized brine out of the ground, angled towards the foe, in the direction that his axe strikes the ground, Its range varies depending on his level of focus but it never exceeds 120ft nor receeds lower than 50ft. Finally he can listen to the sounds of liquid to try and coerce it into slightly different motion, effectively using the slightly altered flow to heal wounds of one person, this takes longer the worse the wound. The Geyser takes about 50 seconds to cast, while the incantation for Water Line takes 75 seconds. Healing someone with his Geomancy will take a while, about a minute for simple wounds. Healing another requires he bring himself to a serene state of mind and almost total focus.

From the Aspect of Earth he focuses more on defense, bringing earthen armour up around fighting allies (or himself). This armour, while not as effective as metal armour, brings greater resistance to blows than leather with no cost to movement, with barely any earthen matter around the joints and the areas close to the joints being tapered. The armour itself is a mix of earthen matter, primarily dirt, but will not cling to clothing. He can also bring up earthen hemi-spherical shells around fallen allies, which act as a temporary shelter for them to recover. It's designed so that those within can break it easily and those outside will have an extremely hard time. It also slightly alters the feel of the ground to give those within a more comfortable rest. The shells are free standing and, while they will eventually collapse over time, the earthen matter is packed specifically for it to stay in shape for at least 1 hour, where it will slowly degrade from within. There is not enough earth used in it's creation, however that it's degredation will bury the occupant(s). Finally He can call up a sudden rise of earthen spikes around him, reaching from about an inch away from him to a height and distance away from him of 20ft. While useful his Geomancy takes time to charge so he does prefer to go in with his axe. The protective incatantions takes 55 secnds for the armour and 60 for the shells. The Earthen Spikes is the quickest with it's incantation only taking 30 seconds, but is also the most lmited in range and effectiveness.

He does have some crafting skills, but they're limited to only simple metallurgy, such as simple sword blades and the like.
Appearance: Forran is a hunchback, but not overtly so. if he could straighten up he'd reach a decent 6ft 5in, and yet his permenant hunch brings that down 6 inches. (not that he minds) His skin, however, is nearly blemish free, save for a few nicks and dents from his own brief lapses of concentration. He has soothing olive eyes that, despite his slightly grotesque deformitiy and slightly odd way of walking, brings across the man inside. His hair is dirty blond, always trimmed to never pass below the tops of his shoulder. He is, however, rather musclebound and he sometimes feels if he wasn't hunched the ladies would love him for it. Having trained his arms for strength the muscles are most noticable in his biceps, although he insists the extra muscle is just for the comfort of someone who wants to hug him.
For clothing it is plain and simple, leather trousers and cotton t-shirt, regardless of the weather. He does, however, own various gloves for when he does odd jobs around the village and generally wears rather large boots. He also wears a Bandolier that allows him to carry his axe with him on his back,
Personality: Forran, despite his looks and sometimes rough exterior, is a battle-hardened teddy bear. Normally smiling, he is a genually caring guy, until the day of the Herhaling, or the 24 hours either side of the event, his demeanour hardens and the other side of him comes about. Affectionately called "Papa Bear Mode" by most of the children in the village, this side of him is full blown protector, and with a resolute refusal to back down.

There have been occasions when people have found him murmuring to himself alone, the first signs of madness to some, but the late signs of burgeoning Geomancy in many others. At these times are when he is most serene not smiling but still giving off a content air. He does want to share the serenity of the land's voice with others though as he feels that serenity may help take the community farther away from the abyss of depression it had reached.
Other: He has one berserk button: Being called a Cripple. His whole life, effectively, has been one long continued proof that just because his back is slightly different doesn't mean he's crippled, and proves it on every Herhaling with a 3 locust death count on average. Re: Village of the Damned

Post by Tazz on Wed Apr 30, 2014 2:40 pm

Name: Thomas Klein

Age: 41

Gender: Male

Skills/Abilities: As the first bug rushes toward him across the open field, Thomas lazily takes aim with his revolver. He waits until it is only a hundred yards away and fires, the round strikes the hideous creature between the eyes. Three more come into his field of vision. He takes a long swallow if his Boons farm wine before popping off three more shots. The first two fall instantly but the third attempts to dodge to the left. With a careless wave of his hand Thomas steers the bullet so that it strikes the beast dead center. That is when three more attack him from behind and tear him limb from limb as he screams... "JUST LIKE OLD TIMES YOU PIECES OF..." Then his head is torn off.

Thomas has three related abilities. The first is enhanced vision. He can see about five times better than the average person.
His second ability is his near perfect accuracy. It is near perfect, which is not actually perfect at all so he can and does miss, but not often. This applies to all projectiles of any kind but he is best with his own revolver. Note: Just because his accuracy is near perfect does not mean he automatically knows how to use any projectile weapon, for instance he does not know how to use a bow and arrow properly.
His third and final ability is a subtle variation of telekinesis. He can not move just any object with his mind, only small fast moving objects. The only time he really uses this is for adjusting his aim after he has already fired. It is not a powerful ability and he can not fully curve or turn a projectile, just make slight adjustments.

Appearance: With his long dirty beard and Salvation Army style attire, Thomas fits the description of a classic television tramp. He wear a dusty old fedora, holey slacks, a worn denim jacket over a flannel sirt, and beat up shoes one size too big. He is actually a pitiable sight to behold. He is homely to say the least. His forehead is a whit too large for his face and his nose is sharp and crooked from being broke too many times. He is missing a couple teeth, although they are all in the back and not easily visible. His front teeth are slightly crooked and yellow from decades of smoking. His face is heavily scarred as well as the rest of his body from constant fights with humans and monsters alike. One scar in particular cuts through both of his lips and gives the appearance that he once had a cleft pallet but had it repaired; the scar is actually from a large pit-bull biting his face.
His eyes are grayish blue and not easily visible due to his bushy eyebrows. His face wears a natural scowl that can easily scare small children. He stands about six feet two inches tall and weighs two hundred pounds. His physique is surprising to anyone who sees it. With his shirt off Thomas is actually covered with strong wiry muscles. He has a bit of hair on his chest and his muscular belly. He has the body of a fighter, thin but hard and unforgiving.

Personality: One might say Thomas is a combination of Oscar the grouch and Clint Eastwood. He basically hates everyone. Simple as that. He is ornery, easily provoked, and usually does not even bother to acknowledge the existence of others unless he has too. If spoken too, many of his answers will come in the form of a grunt or a dismissive hand gesture... or a downright vulgar hand gesture.

In his mind, Thomas is actually quite poetic. He enjoys mentally narrating the things he sees, particularly the day to day life of the villagers. This is his guilty pleasure and he has never told anyone about it.

Despite his cantankerous disposition, Thomas does have one soft spot, children. He is not any more good-natured toward kids than he is to adults, but he can not stand to see a child suffer. During the Herhaling, Thomas often sacrifices himself trying to protect the children of the town. Though he has been known to leave adults to die without hesitation or remorse. He has also been known to commit a few "mercy killings" on those with gruesome injuries; but only on children, he considers adults to be a waste of a bullet.

Other: Thomas' weapon is a Super Redhawk .44 Magnum revolver. He also keeps a small semi-automatic Luger as a back-up but he strongly favors the revolver.

Thomas is a unapologetic alcoholic.

Hm... Sounds all right to me <.< Powers aren't overpowering...

Anyway! From here you simple jump in. I suggest reading the rp so far to get an idea as to what is happening. You have quite a variety of things to do. Your characters seems to be one who would be in the bar that the time... maybe walk out and see someone or stay there for awhile? It is all up to you what you do. I can only suggest :)

Re: Village of the Damned

Post by AkaiJose on Fri May 02, 2014 8:02 pm

Name: Zora Dalaklis (She prefers that her little “children” {Abigail and Crystal} call her “Mother” or another other term of endearment.)

Age: 24 years old.

Gender: Female

Abilities: Note: Zora’s magic is more combat-oriented, as she trained much of her energy into using it for fighting.
-Metal Manipulation: She has the ability to control metals. Only metals under her control would be iron, steel, silver, and gold, which are able to be twisted and shaped by Zora’s mind (though gold and silver don’t serve a great purpose to her). She can melt the metal into a liquid form or harden it into a solid, without needing any sort of heat. The metal must be present in her environment, at most three feet away from her body. Most of this power is used to create instant armor plating or to repair any damages made to her sword. She even has her own move, dubbed “Steel Feathers”, where she could cut her sword through the air, turning the metal liquid at the tip just before so it would form droplets in the air. Before the droplets fall, she would harden them to create a sharp end and shoot them for ranged attacks (these feathers can be controlled for greater distances, as they are smaller).
Edit: For Zora, the metal must be visible and directly before her in the three foot radius. The utmost concentration is needed for armor forgery, so she must be left in solitude for this ability to work properly, else the metal will fall apart. This takes a lot of energy, usually causing her to feel very sleepy and hungry right afterward. If she is already sleep-deprived or lacking proper daily nutrients, she may easily pass out for a good two hours. Even then, her armor is not excellent quality, so if the wearer is hit with a very violent force (say, a person is getting crushed between the jaws of a bigger monster) or even with fire, the metal will shatter into multiple shards or completely fall into fine dust. This, as you can see, means she can only have control over small quantities of metal at a time as it drains her less; also, the way her feathers work is that they are pushed rather than full controlled, seeing that it would require less effort on her part. She absolutely needs metal, else she would just perform as any normal human being does.
Skills:
-Swordsmanship: Zora, as one may be able to tell, is very skilled in the ways of sword-fighting, using usually a fuller longsword (the dark grey blade three and a half feet in length) with a shiny black hilt (a black leather grip to match), a bright orange gemstone set right on the cross-guard between the hilt and the blade. The pommel is in the shape of an ouroboros. Her skills in this fighting art usually involve quick, steady slices at the enemy, keeping balance while delivering well-aimed blows. She often practices day in and day out, taking care to sharpen and polish the blade when need be. Taught by her father (as he attempted to fight Byatha), Zora takes care to focus and not let her guard down throughout a fight.
Edit: The weapons she can create are knives, arrows, and the like. She cannot create, say, battle axes or anything elaborate. Her weakness, I forgot to mention, is seen in heavy blows that are taken to her legs. She focuses so much on being quick on her feet that she cannot easily take on a single blast of energy to her feet. When she is on the ground, it sometimes takes her a bit to get back up.
-Cooking: Why not include this? Anyway, because of her tender, caring attitude, Zora worries a lot for the welfare of her “children”. Due to this, she has taught herself the ways of cooking food and making is taste good, making sure appropriate nutrients are provided in each meal. She firmly believes in the motto “You are what you eat”, so she only feeds people healthy food that will strengthen their immune system or help them recover from illness. She is rather proud of this skill, as she is often praised for it.
Edit: Yes, this means that she uses set recipes. However, she does have the ability to improvise, though this takes many hours of working and experimenting. Oh, and the pastries are non-fattening and healthy. :3 Though perhaps not as delicious...Will you dare to try them out?
-Empathy: Note: This is NOT a power! Zora, also because of her caring nature, is capable of talking to people, getting close to them and aiding them, either mentally or physically, in an attempt to relieve them of their burden. She is, of course, the “Mother”, so she often takes it upon herself to talk to people and give them a happy smile when need be. She does not sympathize, but rather she puts herself in their shoes, trying to actively feel what they feel.
Edit: She oftentimes worries more over others, throwing away all her own self concern.
-Male-Ward: Yes. Because she is very overprotective of her children, Zora is very, very good at scaring off men. She doesn’t like the thought of her innocent little girls getting involved in love or any silly, fake promises a guy would make. Whether this stems from her personal experiences or not, one will have to find out. But that’s just how she is.
Edit: She is capable of empathizing with them, but she is very keen on "no romance".

Appearance: By first glance, Zora appears to be well-built and cool, yet full of some feministic charm. She is five feet ten and a half inches in height, a weight of one-hundred forty pounds. As stated previously, she has a muscular frame, her muscles showing whenever she uses them. This is not to say that she looks like a complete body-builder; no, she may have well-toned abs and arms, but when sitting or standing still in a relaxed manner, she can appear normal—not to say too thin or too thick. Her shoulders are erect and straight, broadened with exercise. Her hips are rather narrow, giving her a slimmed-down look that can make her appearance a little misleading. She has a decently sized bust, not appearing too large or too small. Her long legs are toned as well, yet not bulging overtly. Her skin, quite pale to be honest, always burns, causing her to have pink highlights everywhere on her being. Zora’s face is oval-shaped, with a sharp jaw leading to her small-ish ears, three piercings in each. She has high cheekbones (with a natural pink tinting the tops) and a straight, sharp nose. Her mouth, with pink lips, is a smaller size than most, giving her (another misleading) soft-spoken look. She has almond-shaped, silver-colored eyes with pupils usually constricted, giving her a cold, piercing gaze, her eyebrows arched in a way that allows her to perpetually look as though she were inspecting everything thoroughly. Her eyebrows are usually covered, however, by her chocolate-brown bangs that cover most of her forehead, the rest of her hair layered, straight, and a tangled mess that runs down her back, stopping to just an inch above her shoulder blades. And that is Zora’s natural appearance, without the alterations of makeup or anything.
In terms of clothing, what Zora wears may be considered a little too risqué by others, though she wears it for comfort and for ease of movement. To start, she nearly always wear some sort of cropped shirt, be it a leather bustier or a cropped tank top. Only rarely will she wear longer shirts and especially dresses, as she believes them to be uncomfortable and unfit for battle. She also wears cargo shorts (with a black belt, a silver flower adorning the buckle) that go down to mid-thigh most of the time, never even attempting skirts or frilly things. Sometimes, whenever it is too cold for her liking, she will wear full jeans, but this is rather rare. With the shorts, she wears thigh-high black socks and black combat boots that are laced nearly all the way up her shin. This will never, ever change, for the boots are the only footwear Zora will agree to wear. Lastly, she is always seen wearing a grey, leather coat (falling to just above mid-thigh) with a large hood that she uses to shield herself in the night from others. One can never see accessories or decorative items on Zora’s being (except her earrings, which are always studs rather than hoops or dangling ones). Yet sometimes, just to be silly, she will put on an apron when cooking.

Personality: Zora’s a very (surprisingly enough) warm and loving person, often seen with her little children and watching over them like a true mother. With them, she’s often very smiley and jovial, never wanting to make them depressed or upset (even though she forces them to call her mother). She is very tender and motherly, never wanting to see children suffering or in pain; yet she also wants them to abide by her rules to keep them safe, even threatening to punish them if they do something to her distaste. She grows attached to others because of this, becoming very particular when a problem arises in their lives. If a problem can be identified, she will go out of her way to see it solved by her own hands, even resorting to violence if need be.
Outside of this, she’s quite cool and calm, with a level-head that can sort out arguments or keep people from getting at each other’s necks. Though she will, sometimes, snap into rage if someone tries to hurt her or her loved ones, becoming absolutely furious and violent (a sort of blind fury, in all honesty). Her flaws kick in at this point, as she disregards everyone’s safety and will fight someone until they grovel at her feet or die. Because she has died multiple times on Herhaling, she is tormented by thinking of her past, often having bad dreams. When upset enough, she will go into a depressed state, not willing to do much. This happens a lot when it rains, causing her to stay in a secluded state until the next day.

Other: Booooooooop. *Reaches into Steph’s cookie jar and steals a cookie, smirking diabolically*

Hm... So we talked about this, right? The metals must be visible to her. And when I say visible, I mean it must be in her line of sight or she can't control it. This will get rid of the "being able to bring metal to her and making it seem like she is forming metal from thin air" thing. I also think it should take time to repair armor and create it. It has to be tiring, right? Perhaps she can only repair armor outside of battle because of the concentration needed to do it along with the strain on her mentality. With creating armor the great advantage is she doesn't need fire so that already makes her pretty good. Though... let's look at this real fast. Doesn't this make her a blacksmith without the fire?

That being said, how long does it take to get really good at being a blacksmith? Quite a bit of time, right? So make it noticeable that she isn't the best at it or she dedicates her time to blacksmith work, meaning she doesn't have a lot of experience in other things. I would also make a point to stress that she NEEDS metal to create or use her power. Without it, she has nothing but a normal person's skills. I would then make sure to place in the bio (as reference to you and your fellow rp-ers) that the reason she can control smaller ones is because they are less straining and because she is pushing them towards the target instead of really "controlling" them. I don't know why that would be beneficial... just feels like it would be.
Hm... I am okay with this is her blacksmith-like skill is toned down. You know what I mean? If she only makes knives, light swords, and the like then this is fine. If she makes Battle axes for people and heavier swords, this skill would need to be tampered with. I suggest as well to say what her weakness is in a swordfight. Ranged combat? Heavy blows? Can she parry another sword's attack?
-Cooking: Why not include this? Anyway, because of her tender, caring attitude, Zora worries a lot for the welfare of her “children”. Due to this, she has taught herself the ways of cooking food and making is taste good, making sure appropriate nutrients are provided in each meal. She firmly believes in the motto “You are what you eat”, so she only feeds people healthy food that will strengthen their immune system or help them recover from illness. She is rather proud of this skill, as she is often praised for it.
Hm... If she was handed marshmellows, kale, and a turkey, could she cook with it and make it taste good? Basically, can she improvise or does she have to have a set recipe or be given extra time to think up a way to create this meal? And I assume she can't make pastries since she focuses on healthy food. :)
-Empathy: Note: This is NOT a power! Zora, also because of her caring nature, is capable of talking to people and drawing them in. She can get close to people and aid them, either mentally or physically, trying to relieve them of their burden. She is, of course, the “Mother”, so she often takes it upon herself to talk to people and give them a happy smile when need be. She does not sympathize, but rather she puts herself in their shoes, trying to actively feel what they feel.
Hm... Drawing people in is more of "Charisma" in my opinion and would be something completely different. How about she has an inviting personality? That would be more appropriate, no? This would also have a MAJOR weakness even though it isn't an ability. Does she get so caught up in helping people, that she forgets that she needs to take care of herself? That would bring about a lot of problems that, in my opinion, would help make her an intricate character.
So wouldn't this mean she only empathizes with females? That should be part of the "Empathy" Part if so :P This would also mean, of course, she would never be in a relationship. She would scare men off. I can see Abby being one to say "If you love children so much... why don't you have any? I would love to be friends with them!" So... yeah, be ready for that.

TheDarknessofLoyalty wrote:Name: Forran Urlaquie
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Skills/Abilities: Forran has trained himself, through many mistakes, how to wield an axe with his abnormal stature, but more of his learning went into hearing the voice of the earth beneath and listening to its call. Speaking to the earth he can call upon geomancy to both bolster himself and his allies as well as harm his foes, focusing on the aspects of earth and water.
Does this last bit, "focusing on the aspects of earth and water", need to be here? I don't think it does.

From the aspect of Water, he can summon a temporary Geyser, which shoots about 60ft into the air, spraying brine and debris (Debris? So the ground? I can't think of what else could come out of a geyser but rocks.) around. With a bit of focus he can unleash what he calls a "Water Line". This Geomancy sends a line of pressurized brine out of the ground, angled towards the foe in the direction that his axe strikes the ground, Its range varies depending on his level of focus never exceeding 120ft nor receding lower than 50ft. Healing someone with his Geomancy will take a whileabout a minute for simple wounds. To heal someone he requires time to enter a serene state of mine to achieve complete focus.

From the Aspect of Earth he focuses more on defense, bringing earthen armour up around fighting allies. This armour, while not as effective as metal armour, brings greater resistance to blows than leather with no cost to movement. (But earth is heavier than leather... isn't it? It's dirt.) The armour itself is a mix of earthen matter, but will not cling to clothing. He can also bring up earthen shells around fallen allies, which act as a temporary shelter for them to recover. It's designed so that those within can break it easily and those outside will have an extremely hard time. (So it is soft on the inside, hard on the outside?)It also slightly alters the feel of the ground to give those within a more comfortable rest. (This thing doesn't float, right? So if it is a rounded shell, does that mean is rolls? And can he keep the shell up while he is fighting or does he make it so hard on the outside that it is capable of staying together on its own without the use of anymore magic so that he can fight?) He can call up a sudden rise of earthen spikes around him, reaching from about an inch away from him to a height and distance away from him of 20ft. While useful, his Geomancy takes time to charge so he does prefer to go in with his axe.

(not that he minds) His skin; however, is nearly blemish free, save for a few nicks and dents from his own brief lapses of concentration. He has soothing olive eyes that, despite his slightly grotesque deformitiy and slightly odd way of walking, brings across the man inside. His hair is dirty blond, always trimmed to never pass below the tops of his shoulder. He is; however, rather musclebound and he sometimes feels if he wasn't hunched the ladies would love him. Having trained his arms for strength the muscles are most noticable in his biceps, although he insists the extra muscle is just for the comfort of someone who wants to hug him.
For clothing it is plain and simple, leather trousers and cotton t-shirt, regardless of the weather. He does; however, own various gloves for when he does odd jobs around the village and generally wears large boots. He also wears a Bandolier that allows him to carry his axe with him on his back.
Personality: Forran, despite his looks and sometimes rough exterior, is a battle-hardened teddy bear. Normally smiling he is a genuinely caring guy until the day of the Herhaling. or the 24 hours either side of the even his demeanour hardens, and the other side of him comes about. (The previous statement doesn't make sense to me... Fix it!) Affectionately called "Papa Bear Mode" by most of the children in the village, this side of him is full blown protector, and with a resolute refusal to back down.

There have been occasions when people have found him murmuring to himself alone, the first signs of madness to some, but the late signs of burgeoning Geomancy in many others. At these times are when he is most serene not smiling but still giving off a content air. He does want to share the serenity of the land's voice with others though. (Why?)
Other: He has one berserk button: Being called a Cripple. His whole life, effectively, has been one long continued proof that just because his back is slightly different doesn't mean he's crippled, and proves it on every Herhaling with a 3 locust death count on average. He also disdains harming minors in any way, and while he'll passively defend the minor physically should they come under attack he can give out quite the verbal lashing if they're attempting to bring the kid down. (Previous statement no make sense... fix.) He has hope. And that's why he smiles. He's an apprentice at the local smithy which is where he learned his metallurgy skills.

Good job. Hope you like the excessive bio dissection. There are a lot of Blacksmith apprentices now... huh... oh well...
