Sophie
"In the arms of the angel, may you find some comfort here." A pretty girl sang while she stroked a 6 year old's head. Sophie smiled sadly to the little boy and watched as his eyes stopped glowing an eerie green and faded into a normal shade of brown. She put her hand to his cheek and looked at his face. "Are you okay now? Will you be able to stay calm if I go for a bit?"

The little boy nodded his head and wiped a tear from his cheek. "I'll stay calm, Sophie." Without warning the kid wrapped his arms around the girl and smiled. "Thank you for coming to sing to me today. You're sure you aren't like us?"

A giggle escaped her lips and she kissed the boy's forehead. "Nope. I'm afraid not, Jake. I don't have a cute tattoo like you do." She pointed to the ink that stained the boy's perfect skin inside his elbow. A black flicker of flame danced there and disappeared when he bent his arm towards him. "Sorry. I need to leave now though." The girl stood from her spot on the bed and turned back to the boy to ruffle his blonde hair. "You be good now, okay? I will be back later tonight once I do dinner rounds. Yours will be the last so I can talk to you the most." She poked his nose playfully and earned a smile from him.

"Okay! I can't wait to see you!" He replied, giving her one last hug before she walked out of the fireproof room. As soon as she closed the door, her face dropped its happiness and was replaced with sorrow and defeat. All day she had been making rounds to those who called for her, and for some reason today was her busiest. She walked down the hall and into a large area where scientists sat at their computers and microscopes to gather information. Sophie looked to a black haired man who was overdue for a clean haircut.

"Anymore work for today before I take my dinner rounds?" She asked him, waiting for him to look up from his work and answer her question.

A big smile passed over the man's face and he leaned back in his chair. "Yes, ma'am! We just got a new specimen for the tattoo project. Everyone is very excited! They also thought you should bring him his dinner last, so you can speak to him for a little while if he is talkative tonight. If not, I am sure you would like to sing to the little ones before you head home." He explained. "Haley doing better than yesterday?"

With a quick nod, she replied, "oh, yes! Her fever went down and she is having able to levitate just as well as when before she came down with the flu." Her thoughts rushed around in her head. A new person? How many more were going to pass through those solid, locked doors? She wondered. "Anyway, I will hurry up with my runs and then head for the new person's room. Will I find their information by the food?"

"As always, Soph." He said simply as his eyes moved to the computer again.

"Alright... Hope you get some rest tonight, Adam. You have been working too hard for your own good." She joked and smiled before heading off to begin her simple dinner routine. She made a wide circle around the entire facility so that she could get to everyone's room without having to do too much work to get the job done. When she reached the last two trays of food, she found the batch of information on the new experiment on a simple piece of paper, drugged food, and Jake's food. Letting out a deep sigh, she took up the tray with details and started off to the new room.

Upon entering, Sophie looked at the slip of paper for a name for the newcomer. "Hi there... Drevan Orion?" She checked his name once again. "Oh, Orion like the constellation! That's pretty cool." A smile spread across her face. The girl walked over to the table and set the tray of food down. "I've come with your evening meal. If you have any questions, I can answer a few now." She looked at the paper again and her eyes widened. He was sent here because of a faked murder charge? Could this place get any more inhuman? "I am also here to talk for a little while if you want. I can't be too long though. I'm sorry. Is there anything you will need for the night that I might be able to get you? Perhaps an extra blanket or a glass of water?"

Sitting on the chair looking towards the floor with a blank expression was a man on the edge of despair. Running through everything that happened again, being arrested for a crime he knew he did not commit was terrifying. When in the courtroom and seeing his parents look at him as if he was a monster. That was the worst part. He loved his parents and having them believe they raised a killer is traumatizing.

Everything else was a daze of activity when he sank into his old depression. He did remember that he was fed some drugged food and then woke up in this... room its not a type of jail cell he had seen before with a horrible pain in his eyes. When he woke up the pain snapped him out of his depression long enough for reality to sink in and nearly crush him. WHY?!, he was shouting over and over again in his mind. Coming dangerously close to falling back into a deep deep depression state, JUST BREATHE!!!, breathing deeply his hands unclenched, not realizing he was until then. OK, OK I will not fall back into it its all a misunderstanding eventually someone will find the truth or I will and everything will be fine. Ok, now why would I be accused of a crime I did not commit?, closing his eyes to concentrate, the reason would be. A realization dawned upon him his eyes widening slightly, Oh my god, I'm a lab rat. Then breathing deeply  ,OK, calm down and think! You were brought to be some sort of experiment, now breathing deeply with his eyes closed, Come on Drevan do not let yourself fall back into that depression, just try to find a way to escape, Looking around there was only one door. I guess I will have to wait for something to happen, Suddenly the door to his room opened and a small woman entered carrying a tray of food and a clipboard.

Putting on his masterful 'pokerface' the woman greets him, "Hi there... Drevan Orion?", seeming to check if she got his name right on the clipboard, "Oh, Orion like the constellation! That's pretty cool." She smiles at him and walks over, Drevan watching with his blank expression, to the table setting the tray of food down. "I've come with your evening meal. If you have any questions, I can answer a few now." Hmm, ok lets play this safe ask questions they would expect. Then her eyes widened when she checked the clipboard again. "I am also here to talk for a little while if you want I can't be long though. I'm sorry. Is there anything you will need for the night that I might be able to get you? Perhaps an extra blanket or a glass of water?" Looking up at her for the first time and staring into her eyes, Hmm, something surprising about me? It seems like she is trying to be nice, but I don't know if it is sincere. Lost in thought trying to decipher her intentions a few minutes pass without a word, with Drevan staring into her eyes.

As he stared, the hairs on the back of Sophie's neck prickled. Her face grew a tint of pink and she turned her head away from him to avert her gaze. "U-um... do you have any questions?" She asked and looked around the small room. Not only we these sick scientists using up false court cases to get them their new specimen, but the living quarters had no color to them to help the specimen cope with their new surroundings. The girl didn't know a single person who could be comforted by a white room with the necessities only.

She decided then that she would create some of the small crafts she did for the kids in the building for Mr. Orion too. Sure, it was childish, but it was definitely better than such a bland room, right? Just one paper flower? Or a basket to hold fruit? Anything would do!

The girl smiled again, excited by her idea; however, she felt slightly embarrassed because of it. "U-uh... so, if you don't have any questions, I will go ahead and let you eat alone..." She spoke meekly, hoping she hadn't angered him.

Her face grew a tint of pink and she turned her head away from him. "U-um... do you have any questions?" She asked and looked around the small room.

Did I scare her?, Intrigued by her reaction Drevan, and here I thought she would be a cold hearted b**** on the inside. The girl seemed to start to get more scared and was looking around the room more and seemed to be… embarrassed about something, Wait, how did I know she’s getting embarrassed?, pushing the thought aside, Anyways, I should probably respond before she goes.

Speaking meekly she says, "U-uh... so, if you don't have any questions, I will go ahead and let you eat alone...". Sliding the tray closer to his side of the table Drevan responds, “Yes I do have questions, sorry for not responding it is… a lot to take in with someone in my situation.” Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes as he did, Start with simple questions, then opening his eyes he turned to look at her and said, “What is your name?”

The girl jumped slightly and mumbled under her breath how stupid she must have looked. She supposed she was just very surprised that he actually spoke to her. The people who come in here never speak to her at first. Well... the younger ones would sometimes cry in her arms for hours...

"Oh, um... I understand. You don't have to apologize for it, Mr. Orion." A sweet smile came to her face as she adjusted her hands to clasp in front of her body. "My name is Sophie. I hope I can help you feel comfortable here..." She said, her face failing to keep its smile from falling.

Her eyes darted to the door as it opened. Jordan peeked in, a little girl with a black circle above her right eye. She wore a small lab coat over her shoulders "Sophie? Mr. Giddy told me you were in here... I wanted to know if I could go outside with you..."

The scientist's eyes grew wide and she stole a quick glance at Drevan before crouching near the door with the girl. "Later, sweetheart. I have to take of someone else for now. Go back to your room before someone else finds you. They won't be as lenient about you being in the halls as Giddy." She whispered. "And don't mention anything about our walks to anyone else, okay? Remember?" She pressed a finger to her lips and winked. "They are supposed to be secret!"

"Right!" She squeaked before realizing her mistake and grew quieter. "I will go back. See you later, Sophie." Jordan muttered and dashed down the hall.

Sophie stood up and locked the door with a sigh. "S-s-sorry for that... The kid rooms are down this hall... and since there were no rooms available upstairs, they placed you here for the time being. In the next three days, you will be moved to another room if you prefer..." She explained, directing her words to the boy sitting on the bed.

When the door opened Drevan loses his blank expression and his eyes snap open wide, They keep kids here?!, shocked at the immorality of it all he visibly tenses and his hands curl into fists. The little then asks Sophie, "Sophie? Mr. Giddy told me you were in here... I wanted to know if I could go outside with you..."His eyes still riveted on the child and in disbelief he tries to calm himself, Experimenting on children? God I knew some people were immoral but this... this crosses the line no matter the excuse."Later, sweetheart. I have to take of someone else for now. Go back to your room before someone else finds you. They won't be as lenient about you being in the halls as Giddy." She then leans in and whispers something Drevan cannot hear. He then does his best to subdue his anger and unclenches his hands and relaxes his posture. Too many unknowns to act on right now I need to remain calm... Orion then returned his expression to his 'poker face' and waited for Sophie and the girl to finish conversing.

"Right!" The girl squeaked and then toned her voice down. The girl then left and Sophie locked the door sighing, "S-s-sorry for that... The kid rooms are down this hall... and since there were no rooms available upstairs, they placed you here for the time being. In the next three days, you will be moved to another room if you prefer..."

Speaking with as little emotion as possible, "Now what would a new room do for me in my current predicament?," looking around the room then gazing at her again he asks, "Besides, what is the difference between this room and another one in this place?"

The girl's index finger tapped against her lips and her eyes narrowed in thought. "Um, it would mean your room would be more peaceful. You wouldn't have kids running down the hall or screaming." She explained and her gazed softened with sorrow. "Sometimes the children throw tantrums..."

Sophie shook her head and placed her hands on her sides. "Anymore questions, Mr. Orion?" She asked and clenched her fist for a split second. The security cameras caught that slip up... she knew it. The team who watched the cameras didn't care about what was happening in any of the rooms unless the experiments were getting antsy, but Julia enjoyed finding reasons to yell at Sophie. The sweet girl sighed as she realized just how many times she had slipped. Sophie had given out information about the facility that she was to keep quiet, she hadn't addressed the specimen by their number, and she allowed another specimen come into the room.

Right now she didn't care. She would just ignore Julia for the day. Recently the kids have been more excited than usual. The teenager would enter a room and they would tackle her with a hug and not let go for awhile. She had to bribe them with sweets to get them to let her continue with her job.

All of this could be caused by the recent escape. Last week two people pushed out of the laboratory, both experiments. Maybe the kids were getting hopeful... If only Sophie had as much optimism as the kids she helped.

Hmm, well, either I could stay here and possibly help other kids or go to where I might possibly find allies...Drevan looks down and contemplates his options. He then looks back at the door I should stay and try to help the kids in any way I can… if it’s possible. Finally coming to a decision after a few minutes, "No, that will not be necessary, I will remain here." Hopefully this will surprise whoever is keeping me here, Looking back up into Sophie's eyes he continues, "Now, can you tell me why I am here?” Then suddenly feeling the pain in his retina, “ Also, specifically, what was done with my eyes? I am experiencing quite a bit... discomfort with them." Probably should have asked this first they will probably be suspicious… damn.
